6 Signs Your Home Needs New Siding
Six signs a Kitchener home is due for new siding — and how to tell cosmetic wear from the signs that the wall behind it is getting wet.
Siding's only job is to keep water out of the wall. When it stops, the damage is hidden. Here's what to look for on your Kitchener home, from cosmetic to urgent.
1. Chalk and fade
Wipe the west or south wall. White residue means the vinyl or paint has oxidized — normal on 1980s–90s vinyl in Forest Heights and Stanley Park. Cosmetic, but chalky vinyl is brittle vinyl.
2. Cracks, holes and unlocked panels
First-generation vinyl cracks in the cold and lets go in the wind. Every crack is a water path. Check after each storm.
3. Buckling and waves

4. Soft trim and fascia
