Exterior Trim in Kitchener
Exterior trim for Kitchener homes — window and door surrounds, corner and band boards, gable details — in materials that don't rot, flashed so water stays out of the wall.
Trim is where Kitchener siding fails first. Wood brickmould around the windows of a Forest Hill bungalow rots from the sill up. The corner boards on a 1980s Forest Heights two-storey have shrunk and opened. The J-channel over a Doon front door has no head flashing behind it, and the drywall inside is bubbling. Water finds the gap every time.
We install and replace trim in PVC, aluminum-clad, fibre-cement and composite, and we flash every opening — the part you'll never see and the part that decides whether the wall stays dry.
What's included
- Window and door surrounds, including replacing rotted wood brickmould on 1950s–70s homes
- Corner boards, band boards, frieze and gable trim
- Head flashing over openings and kick-out flashing where a roof meets a wall — the missing piece on a lot of Kitchener homes with a garage roof against the house
- Colour-matched or contrasting trim to suit the siding
- Sealing at every joint, with the sealant as backup rather than the only defence
Trim on brick homes
In the old wards the only exterior trim is often wood around the windows and at the eaves. Replacing it in PVC keeps the look and ends the repainting cycle. In a heritage conservation district we'll confirm what's allowed before we order material.
Trim as a facelift
If the siding on a 1990s Williamsburg or Laurentian home is sound but the house looks flat, wider window surrounds, real corner boards and a band board between floors change the look for a fraction of a re-side. One of the better-value exterior jobs we do.
Frequently asked questions
What trim material is best for Kitchener weather?
Cellular PVC and aluminum-clad trim don't rot or need paint. Fibre-cement trim is durable but needs paint. Wood suits a century home but wants attention every few years.
Can you add trim without redoing the siding?
Yes on most vinyl and aluminum — we pull the panels around the opening, install trim and flashing, and re-hang them.
Do you replace rotted brickmould?
Yes; it's the most common trim job on Kitchener's post-war stock. We check the frame and sill behind it while it's open.
